Murder of 81-year-old in Zall Bastar, police escort a suspect

Tirana Police have a suspect in the murder of 81-year-old Xhemal Meta in Zall-Bastar. The suspect has been taken to Tirana Police and is being questioned, A2 CNN reports. So far, there is no arrest warrant for him, and the police are working to document the incident with legal evidence.

Initially, the police said that the victim had collapsed on the village streets, but later, forensic expertise revealed that the victim's head had obvious signs of violence, caused by hard objects.

The elderly man had left his house for the village cafe when he was found dead by local residents. For years he had lived alone in Shëngjin i Vogël, part of the Zall-Bastar administrative unit, while his family, including his wife, live in Tirana. Meta had some small cattle and chickens, which he took care of on a daily basis.

Investigators suspect that the elderly man may have had a conflict with local residents over village matters, but the possibility that he was hit with the intention of stealing cannot be ruled out. This is because, according to A2 CNN sources, the 81-year-old man's wallet and several other items he was carrying were not found, but the house was found intact.

When asked about the incident and any suspicions they may have, the family members told the police that the elderly man had no conflicts with anyone and they do not suspect any of the people living nearby, as they are also blood relatives.

Only 4 families live in the area and have been questioned by the police, but they declare that they have no knowledge of the incident. The investigation into this incident is oriented towards the criminal offense of intentional murder, while work is underway to identify the perpetrators. (A2 Televizion)
