"He opened the door for me, Mark's face was not his. He was flushed, shaking badly, scary, he told me "I haven't slept, I haven't eaten.... He said it like he was a demon, I was afraid he would hurt me too". This is what Nors Man Lapaz, the mother of Mark Antony Samson, the 23-year-old who stabbed Albanian woman Ilaria Sula to death in Rome, confessed during interrogation on April 7. Italian media reports that the woman is being investigated for collaboration in hiding a corpse.
"I told him 'calm down' and he was shaking and said 'mom...mom!!'" explained Nors Man Lapaz, recounting what happened on March 26 at the apartment in the African neighborhood. She added that "I saw a woman with her face on the ground (Ilaria Sula). I said 'honey, what have you done?' And he told me in Filipino 'if I hadn't done it, they would have killed me' as if to say that if she hadn't died, he would have died."
Prosecution: Mother played an active role
According to prosecutors from the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, the woman played an "active" role in helping her son clean the room after the fatal attack. The girl's body was then put in a suitcase that Samson threw into a valley in the Capranica Prenestina area, about 40 kilometers from the capital. Before investigators and prosecutors, Samson's mother reported that she had heard the two arguing that morning. "They were talking loudly: both raised their voices, it seems to me more her than him - said the mother of the killer. I was worried because I have never heard them talk like that, when they are with us they speak in a low voice: they are very reserved."
"He told me not to go into the room" The suspect said she then knocked on her son's door. The boy's mother said she then saw Ilarian "face down," adding that she did not "go into the room because he told me not to."
"Mom, do we have a big suitcase?"
According to the woman's reconstruction, it was Samson who then went to her. "He came into my room and asked me 'mom, do we have a big suitcase?' I showed him where it was and he took it. Then after I went to the kitchen, he came and took a bag. The mother told investigators that at one point her son "asked for a hug and I hugged him: he didn't want to tell his father." (A2 Televizion)
