Killed Albanian with fishing pole, 18 years in prison for perpetrator

An Italian court has sentenced to 18 years in prison the Algerian citizen who killed 23-year-old Albanian Klajdi Bitri with a fishing pole in Sirolo, Ancona, on August 27, 2023.

The 23-year-old Albanian intervened to help his Italian friend who was in conflict with the Algerian, when the latter shot him in the chest with a fishing pole.

The 23-year-old died a few minutes later while the perpetrator fled the scene, only to be arrested a few hours later by the police.

Prosecutor Marco Pucilli requested a sentence of 24 years, while the court, in addition to 18 years in prison, also sentenced the defendant to pay compensation of 40 thousand euros to the young man's parents.

The verdict was handed down shortly before 3:00 p.m. on January 21, after nearly three hours in the deliberation room. The fishing rod used to commit the crime was also brought into the courtroom. (A2 Televizion)
