A powerful fire has engulfed Mount Dukat in Vlora, burning over 160 hectares of dense vegetation, shrubs and pine forests. Efforts to extinguish the flames are facing extreme difficulties, while the risk of the fire spreading towards the Llogara National Park, an area of high ecological and natural importance, continues.
According to official data, the fire line is about 3 to 4 kilometers long and has numerous branches that could spread further due to the wind and rugged mountainous terrain. The southern wing of the fire, which is located closer to the Llogara protected area, is considered the most critical and is being kept under constant monitoring, writes A2 CNN.
The difficulties in intervention are great as the steep terrain, the lack of accessible roads and the lack of water sources in the vicinity have forced firefighters to work with hand tools such as shovels, picks and backpack pumps.
