Adela Demetja elected new director of the National Gallery of Arts

Adela Demetja has been appointed as the new director of the National Gallery of Arts, officially known as the Museum of Fine Arts, a building near the capital's pedestrian zone, which has been inactive for several years due to renovation works. 

The government appointed the new director of the National Gallery of Arts yesterday, after also appointing the new directors of the Central Film Archive and the National Center of Cinematography in July.

But who is Adela Demetja, who comes to lead the most important visual arts institution?

Demetja works as an artist not only in the country, but also a well-known name in European galleries. Curator, cultural manager and art producer, beyond being a creator as she has also appeared in the media. Just a few years ago, her name became the representation of Albania at the Venice Art Biennale.

With a master's degree in "Curatorial and Critical Studies" from the Städelschule and Goethe University in Frankfurt, Adela Demetja has also contributed as the artistic director of Tirana Art Lab, a center for contemporary art in Tirana, since 2010.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the Council of Ministers.  "Decision on the appointment of the director of the National Gallery of Arts. In support of Article 100 of the Constitution and Article 9 of Law No. 10352, dated 18.11.2010, "On Art and Culture", as amended, upon the proposal of the Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, the Council of Ministers decided that Ms. Adela Demetja is appointed director of the National Gallery of Arts.
