The Chairwoman of the Laws Committee, Klotilda Busha, addressed the Socialist Party parliamentary group meeting today with a long speech, where she explained her connection with Erion Veliaj and Ajola Xoxa, after her name appeared in the SPAK investigative file.
Bushka said that she heard the news about her involvement in the investigation into Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj from the media, at a SPAK press conference.
She confirmed that she has old acquaintances with Ajola Xoxa and that Erjon Veliaj is an old friend, and moreover, she has stood by both of them during the ordeal of recent months, where the couple have been investigated by the Special Prosecution Office.
"It is true, I not only know Ajola Xoxa but I have collaborated with her even before I became an MP and this is a known fact. Erjon Veliaj is my childhood friend. I am proud of the work we have done together but also of the transformation of the capital. This connection has made me experience with them all the ordeal of recent months, including the public lynching and the constant pressure they have had to face. I have been close to Ajola many times, supporting her as a friend but also as a former colleague on a human level. Due to my commitments, I have had the opportunity to speak with Erion less often. In every case, I have conveyed to him my unwavering faith in the right, the truth, and justice," said Bushka.
The socialist MP further leveled accusations at the investigators, claiming that the people questioned by SPAK were intimidated. Bushka said that pressure was exerted on people aware of the case during their statements in violation of human rights and laws.
"After the search of Erjon and Ajola's offices and after the prosecutor's office summoned a number of Ajola's associates, I became aware of a concern that they have been intimidated, threatened to obtain testimony under pressure. As a man of law and as a member of parliament, I am concerned about several alleged violations of individual rights and elements of due process that have been committed against these people, including Erjon and Ajola themselves. People have been summoned in the status of a person with knowledge, while they have been questioned as persons under factual investigation, being forced to testify against themselves, having statements taken under pressure, denying them the right to legal protection. This is a fact that is produced by dozens of quotes from the statements themselves, which are used as evidence to raise suspicions against them, to remove them from office and to send the mayor of Tirana to prison," she declared.
Despite this, Bushka underlined that "the events of recent days have shown that the new justice institutions", which he insisted were created by the Albanian Parliament and the socialist majority, "during these 8 years have gained sufficient self-confidence to free us in a way from the position of not commenting on the issues" .
