Dashamir Shehi of the LZHK came out this Friday at a press conference to support the new justice system, following the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj. Along with several small opposition parties, Shehi accused the prime minister of attacking SPAK and GJKKO. According to him, the justice system is also under attack and pressure from other political parties.
"The most recent case is that of Prime Minister Edi Rama who initiated public attacks on SPAK prosecutors and GJKKO judges, opposing the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erjon Veliaj, to which both the justice bodies and internationals reacted forcefully."
According to Shehi, those prosecutors and judges should not be left alone in the face of crime, corruption, and pressure from political parties.
"LZHK believes that those prosecutors and judges should not be left alone in the face of crime, corruption, and pressure from political parties who have taken on the role of prosecutor and judge. When it suits them, they say we have created the new justice system. When it doesn't suit them, they get up in the morning and start attacking and showing them the red lines. The trials are ongoing and this is blackmail to scare them and make them bow down and tell them that this is our yard and don't enter."
A day earlier, the new opposition parties also organized a protest in defense of the new justice system, following Rama's attacks.
