ISP survey, citizens want to elect the MP themselves by electronic voting

Albanian citizens want a real electoral reform. This is the conclusion of the survey conducted by the Institute of Political Studies, where over 90% of the people questioned want politics to give them the opportunity to directly elect the deputy through completely open lists.

"We saw that the answers given by citizens are in deep contrast with what we see in parliament and political life. There was massive, almost unanimous support for the preferential vote, so that the citizen chooses the deputy and not the party does the ranking."

The ISP survey highlights the desire of Albanian citizens for some other aspects of the electoral reform, such as the vote of the diaspora or the deepening of decriminalization. Electronic voting and counting is supported by 96% of respondents.

"There was unanimity for the removal from politics of individuals who are not only part of decriminalization or even individuals who are non-women. There was unanimity for the vote of the diaspora, considering it as a normal constitutional right and as part of the family, every Albanian family has a person in the parliament.

Regarding the vote of the diaspora, now also as a constitutional obligation, Afrim Krasniqi, who heads the Institute for Political Studies, is of the opinion that politics has established a silent consensus to make it impossible.

"The actors are not inclined to trust the diaspora, not because of the mechanism of how the diaspora will vote, but because the vote of the diaspora can change the political life in Albania so there is a silent consensus to disable the vote of the Diaspora."
