Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has denounced a major election scandal in Elbasan, known as the “Bulgarian train”, describing it as a case of vote manipulation. The Democrat leader has published new evidence, according to which, in the bar-cafe of the village elder of Pekisht, Dervish Beqiri, an SP observer, significant amounts of election materials, such as ballot papers, voting lists and suspicious euros, were found.
"The 'Bulgarian train', which was widely applied in Albania, remained at the Pekisht station. It came off the rails and remained there. After information that the future deputy of Elbasan, Blendi Himçi, received last night that in the village of Pekisht, in the bar-cafe of the village elder Dervish Beqiri, a loyal observer of the SP, there are a considerable amount of voting materials, ballots, voting lists and narco-euro," Berisha said, according to A2 CNN.
According to Berisha, this case is another proof of widespread practices in some areas of Albania, where Socialist Party patrons, in parallel with the polling centers, had set up "Bulgarian train" offices to manipulate the elections.
He emphasized that, following information received by the future Elbasan MP, Blendi Himçi, this election material was found after a few nights and deposited in the village elder's premises.
"This morning, Mr. Himçi himself went to Dervish Beqiri's bar-cafe, went inside and in the place where he had been informed, all the electoral material that we will now present to you was found. What you see are the ballot papers, the voting lists found, which had been lying around for several nights and were lying in Dervish Beqiri's bar-cafe. Dervish Beqiri is an observer for the Socialist Party, Peqin municipality, CEAZ number 45, voting centers 2292-2293. Now you see the table full of euros, identity cards, a great abundance. This is the table of electoral crime. These are the lists. There are 117 sheets of voting lists with stamps, as you can see. This is the true face of Edi Rama", Berisha said.
