The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has clarified that the party will support any candidate who demands transparency, but complaints must be made through the party's structures and in accordance with the electoral law.
According to Berisha, since the amendments to the Electoral Code in 2019, candidates no longer have the right to file direct complaints, but only political entities have this right. He added that the Democratic Party has requested the declaration of the elections as illegal, and only after reviewing this request will the specific requests of the candidates be addressed.
"If the party has requested the illegality of the elections, the first request that is reviewed is the illegality. After that, the party receives and presents the candidates' requests one by one. Some candidates who have requested a recount have filed them with the party representatives at the CEC and are waiting for the moment of the evaluation that the party has for X district and then their complaints will be presented."
Berisha called the action of some candidates who filed complaints themselves a misunderstanding, and invited them to submit them through DP representatives to the CEC, as foreseen by the party's internal platform.
"They should not waste time, present what they have presented to the KAS, to our representatives at the CEC, so that our representatives for the regions that have made decisions on validity or invalidity, can proceed with their concerns. Even for the Tirana candidates, they were informed again yesterday that the path they have followed is a path that has no legal support. Our representatives at the KAS have implemented the law. They could not vote for an act that has been repealed by law. These four have the right to file our complaint with our representatives at the CEC and they will present the request to the CEC as they wish."
