The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused Prime Minister Rama of a "crime" against pensioners, stressing that pensions have not increased and that this has led to the further impoverishment of this layer. He addressed the government in harsh tones for trying to blame the businessmen, while emphasizing that the government has collected 8.2 billion euros from businesses, but has not invested in pensions.
"Edi Rama, recognizing the crime he has committed against pensioners, undertook the dance of callousness, undertook a series of meetings for a month and a half on how to deceive these people. How and how the businessmen are to blame. But why are the businessmen to blame, when the prime minister has collected 8.2 billion euros from them. 8.2 billion euros, dear friends, are two budgets of 2008. What's wrong with the businessmen here? To make the pensioners look at the businessmen with hatred and believe that they are to blame and not the government.
Cynical! What we inherited is to blame, and what we inherited is this. Every pensioner knows, we found the minimum pension to be 36 euros, we increased it to 82 euros. We found the average pension to be 70 euros, we increased it to 105 euros", said Berisha.
Berisha mentioned the increase in the prices of basic foods and the comparison with the prices in EU countries, saying that Albanian pensioners receive less than those in the countries of the region. He emphasized that Montenegro, Serbia and Macedonia offer much higher pensions than Albania, arguing that this is an injustice and a "serious crime" that pensions in Albania do not increase.
"What will Albania suffer if the government decides to exceed the 800 million pension fund? I will tell you why this is not done, because for you, for the pensioners, they have left 16 million euros, they have predicted 17 million euros for the next year. Where do these go? These are stolen in the most ruthless way", he said. (A2 Televizion)
