In a friendly atmosphere, Opposition Leader Sali Berisha met with Commissioner Johannes Hahn to discuss the political and democratic situation in Albania. The conversation focused on deep concerns about the state of democracy in the country, including the capture of institutions, pressure on the Opposition and the mass exodus of Albanian citizens.
Berisha stressed that Prime Minister Edi Rama's misgovernance and his involvement in the manipulation of institutions has led to an erosion of democratic standards. He also raised concerns about the silence and passive stance of some officials in Brussels and foreign ambassadors, who according to him have turned a blind eye to these phenomena and have directly supported Rama.
On the other hand, Commissioner Hahn expressed his full commitment to be a strong advocate for strengthening democracy in Albania and supporting the country's European integration. He pledged to raise his voice on all the issues raised by the Democratic Party and reflected in the resolutions supported by the European People's Party (EPP).
The meeting was assessed as very positive and constructive, giving signals for clearer support for the democratic aspirations of the Albanian Opposition and citizens seeking change. (A2 Televizion)
