The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, participated this Wednesday in an iftar hosted for Muslim believers for the Night of Power by the Mayor of Kavaja, Fisnik Qosja.
During his speech, the DP leader said that today Kavaja also commemorates March 26, 1990, when its citizens rose up against the dictatorship, thus registering the first revolt against communism.
Berisha concluded his speech by expressing that he bows with gratitude for the bravery and heroism of March 26, with the hope that the next Night of Honor, we democrats will celebrate under completely different conditions.
Part of Berisha's speech:
First of all, I must bow with great respect before you, the citizens of Kavaja, the residents of this city and the district, on this holy night such as the Night of Power, the night of destiny, and from the bottom of my heart I wish each of you and pray to the great God to accept your fasting and sacrifice and for a bright destiny for all of us, for all the citizens of Kavaja.
But tonight we have another night, a night in which we honor together the epic bravery of the men and women of this city, who, in a battle unprecedented in history, faced a cruel dictatorship.
In fact, its foundations were shaken and from that day on, Kavaja became a free city.
Kavaja was in this position, but the dictatorship knew it had lost it forever.
In this context, we bow with the greatest respect to the heroism, to the work, bravery and courage of the men and boys of Kavaja, the anti-communist groups of this city, who in fact became a symbol of the resistance of Albanians for freedom and dignity.
Therefore, on this occasion, the greatest tribute to the freedom-loving citizens of this city.
To conclude, between unwavering faith in God, the most accomplished virtues of your soul, there is an inseparable connection.
There is no greater strength for man than his faith in God and his service to Him.
So once again, I wish you a good night. (A2 Televizion)
