Kosovo's parliament has failed for the 23rd time in a row to form the ninth parliament, following the February elections. The failure to form a new parliament has plunged the country into a political deadlock, leaving it without a new government more than three months after the elections.
Vetevendosje Movement MP Armend Muja said after the session that opposition parties have agreed to block the Parliament in order to prevent the formation of the Kurti 3 government.
For his part, the Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, said that they have no position on whether they would vote for Fatmir Limaj as Speaker of Parliament. At the session, Haradinaj stated that he hoped that there would be a change in the proposal for Speaker of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, has reiterated his stance that they will not vote for any of the MPs who were members of the Kurti government. He said that the blockade in the Kosovo Assembly was initiated by the Vetëvendosje Movement.
There was also a reaction from the Chairman of the Social Democratic Initiative, Fatmir Limaj, who said that he has a “gentleman’s agreement” with the Vetëvendosje Movement. He stated that there are alternatives, but that he does not know if they will be used. He did not answer journalists’ questions about whether he is determined not to vote until his name is proposed. In front of the media, Limaj said that he has also spoken with the Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, and that they will meet in the coming days. (A2 Televizion)
