A day after the Freedom Party Presidency approved his request to be on the open list, Ilir Meta explained from detention cell number 5 why he chose to give up the security of the mandate offered by the closed list, writes A2 CNN.

In a post on social media, the President of the Freedom Party claims that his decision is an extreme sacrifice, but still believes that the victory will be magnificent.

"The Freedom Party (LSI) and Ilir Meta were the first for open lists. Ilir Meta, together with several colleagues, went on a hunger strike in 2008 against the constitutional changes that brought closed lists and killed true parliamentarism," said Meta.

In his explanation, Meta adds that the very existence of his party is from the competition. "Ilir Meta in 2005, for all those who have lost their memory, even though he had the opportunity to become an MP through the proportional system, made an important political act by placing himself only in the majoritarian one because for me, unblocking the country's European process was more important than simply guaranteeing a mandate as an MP."

He concludes his reaction with the phrase that he did not create a party to be an MP, but to ensure political rotation in the country. (A2 Televizion)
