The European Union Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, invited to the studio of "Dita Jonë" on A2 CNN, spoke about the elections in Albania.
"We rely on the assessment made by the OSCE/ODIHR because they are the experts. The administrative part was an aspect that deserves praise, but the report is also critical: it talks about inequality, the extensive use of administrative resources, it talks about pressures on voters," Gonzato said.
Further, the EU ambassador emphasized that now "Albania has a clear majority and must continue with reforms and must address all ODIHR recommendations with electoral reform."
When asked if there is concern in the European Union about the fact that our country will be governed by such a large majority, Gonzato replied: "It is not for me to comment, but with this strong mandate, the government must implement those reforms for which it is committed and there is no one to blame. Accelerating these reforms is important, but this should not come at the expense of transparency or inclusiveness. Everyone should have the opportunity to give their views on how EU standards are implemented."
"Albania is fully committed to becoming a member of the EU and to become one you must respect certain values and principles. I will speak out when I think that some reforms are not progressing properly. I also see this vote as a message that Albanians want to integrate into the EU," Gonzato added.
According to him, "The European Union sees the election result as something positive, as a signal that we need to keep our promises to Albania."
