The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is appealing the security measure decision of February 12, where he was sentenced to prison, at the Special Court.
The complaint was filed through his lawyer, Ermir Beta. It is learned that the complaint was sent by mail.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is accused of having, together with his wife Ajola Xoxa, built a complex corrupt mechanism to embezzle public funds, which were transferred in the form of bribes from contracting companies and NGOs that benefited from Tirana Municipality funds.
The GJKKO on February 12 approved the prosecution's request for prison arrest for Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, while changing the security measure for his wife Ajola Xoxa and confirming the security measures for six other defendants, mainly businessmen accused of corrupting Veliaj.
During the hearing, Veliaj pleaded not guilty and accused prosecutor Ols Dado of conflict of interest. (A2 Televizion)
