Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri has reacted for the first time to the list of candidates for the May 11 elections, where his name ended up on the open list of the Vlora district.
In a Facebook post, Gjiknuri says that returning to the coastal district is an honor and a responsibility for him. He seems unafraid of running for a seat in the Assembly, recalling his record-breaking victories in the 2017, 2019, and 2021 elections.
He also underlines that anyone who knows him, even rivals in the opposition camp, is clear that Gjiknuri is ready to fight political battles until victory.

RETURNING TO VLORA IS AN HONOR AND A RESPONSIBILITY
I return with great pleasure to the socialist family of the Vlora district, where with hard work and joint commitment we achieved the most spectacular results, with consecutive victories and record vote percentages in three electoral processes in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
I am returning to continue the work that we left in the middle due to the new duties assigned to me as Secretary General and political leader of the Elbasan District.
Together we made Vlora proud and confirmed that it remains the soul and heart of the socialists. It has been, is and will continue to be the locomotive that leads the Socialist Party towards electoral successes.
From the first day of my political engagement, I have been guided by several principles and my mission has been to live up to the values and contributions of my father, who was not only a respected civil society activist but also among the first deputies of the Socialist Party.
I have never had the illusion that by getting involved in politics I would not incur costs and that they would not try to smear me. It has been important for me to be loyal to the civic and political heritage of my family. I have always been loyal to the socialist left values and have served at every moment wherever they have given me the trust to serve. A commitment always to protect and respect the interests of every Albanian citizen and, without question, of every member and sympathizer of the Socialist Party of Albania.
I have worked every day and everywhere with the objective of strengthening the Socialist Party and increasing its power for the transformation of the country. I sincerely thank the citizens of Gramsh who trusted me for the first time in my political path by electing me as a deputy twice in a row in 2009 and 2013. Respect for the wise citizens of Dibra with whom we scored a deep victory in 2016, at a delicate political moment when the continuation of the SP government was threatened. Gratitude for the citizens of the Elbasan District and the socialists with whom we worked and guaranteed a clear and clean victory in the 7 municipalities in the 2023 elections.
In all these years of my political engagement, I have not been afraid of any political battle. Of course, I do not believe that there is a single person, even in the opposing camps, who would classify me in the category of those who are afraid of either closed lists, open lists, or majoritarian contests.
On May 11, the entire Vlora Region will vote en masse for the Socialist Party, confirming once again that its rose weighs more than any proper name. We are all transient! What remains is the Socialist Party!
With your support, we will continue together to transform Vlora and all of Albania.
