The Beleri case is preventing the opening of chapters for Albania, causing Greece to veto the integration of our country, a decision that has been criticized by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He received in Berlin the head of the Greek government, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, whom he advised not to hold hostage the opening of the first chapters of integration between Tirana and Brussels for bilateral issues.
But for researcher Agron Alibali, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is personally responsible for this crisis. In Ditar's A2 CNN studio, he raised questions about the attitude of the head of the Greek government, whether he is following the ultranationalist approach of his father in the years 93-94.
"Unfortunately, it has reached such a point that we are faced with diplomatic bullying. Mitsotakis is personally responsible for this crisis and he must turn the corner. Has Mitsotakis influenced the local elections in Albania? The opposition held primaries throughout the country and only in the coastal area did not hold primaries. The Greek Prime Minister received the first blow on October 15 from the Greek voters, as both Bakoyanis and Zervas were defeated in the elections. Perhaps Mitsotakis continues his father's ultra-nationalist approach towards Albanians. There is a personal agenda that stems from family roots. It is Konstantinos Mitsotakis who was prime minister at critical moments in Albanian-Greek relations in '93-'94, he came up with a 6-point program that represented the extreme approach of Greek nationalism towards Albania".
Alibali also criticized the reaction of the official Tirana regarding this issue, while he considered Prime Minister Rama's actions failed, when he contacted the Kathimerini journalist directly, or when he inaugurated the bust of the Greek Prime Minister's father a few weeks ago in Derviçan.
"Greek diplomacy is among the best in Europe and they know very well where it can go and they will analyze that this will turn into a boomerang for Greece and they know it. They will find a way out, they are making an extraordinary pressure, a brutal intervention in the internal affairs of Albania. It is completely unacceptable that no response has been received from the Foreign Ministry of Albania. The charm offensive has failed. What can Albania do? The Albanian Prime Minister's charm offensive has failed. Contact with Kathimerini journalists and bust inaugurations has failed. The Prime Minister has protocol at the state levels. It is not in the dignity of the prime minister of a country to enter directly in relation to an ordinary journalist. There are ways to accomplish this. The charm offensive has failed and Mitsotakis has become tougher."
According to him, Tirana should leave this matter in the hands of professionals.
"Nationalist tendencies have damaged relations. From Tirana, professionals have not been left to deal with these things, and the work of the Greek deputy minister in Këlcyra, who said what he said and received no response, arrived. If there will be a dignified response from professionals things will be at a better point, there is a greater awareness that things are not like 20-30 years ago. The integration of Albanians there is complete and successful and the Greek minority here enjoys all rights. On the Albanian side, the feeling of inferiority has softened a lot. And from Greece, we hope that the feeling of superiority will not degrade".
Asked if Greece will change its approach to Albania or if the international community will intervene, researcher Alibali also brought to attention the conversation between American diplomats and the Greek ambassador to the US on this issue.
"I don't believe that internationals will intervene. The US gave a signal at the public hearing in the foreign affairs committee of the US senate, where Bob Menendez read a question about the Beleri case and there two senior DASH officials answered; The Greek ambassador also came yesterday and presented us with these petitions that constitute a scandal, what business does the Greek ambassador have in the US to go to Washington for such a simple matter. And the American diplomats told him that we will consult with our embassy in Tirana".
