Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting today at the Municipality of Vlora, with regional deputies, former candidates for deputies and state administration employees and officials of the Socialist Party of Vlora.
During his speech, Rama highlighted a series of problems that, according to him, the city of Vlora has, starting from occupied public spaces, to the lack of drinking water and investments in tourism.
Rama has also requested a refresh of the structures of the Socialist Party of Vlora, where, according to him, everyone should be evaluated on merit for the May 11 elections.
Excerpt from Rama's speech:
The time for MPs who provide solutions to problems from a coffee shop is over. They need to go out into the field and serve the citizens.
The problem of public spaces is a problem that is being addressed on the ground. There is no tendency to suffocate businesses. The tendency is to harmonize the interests of both parties, business and citizens. Occupying the sidewalk is unacceptable. The sidewalk should be dedicated only to pedestrians. All service units in Lungomare will have a new design, to harmonize their needs and interests. The problem of occupying public space is on every street and action will be taken on every street.
Another problem of Vlora is parking. We have started work on two public parking lots and will open other investments in the future. But this does not justify parking in violation of the law by occupying pedestrian space. The traffic police will be very strict in this regard.
The problem of drinking water is another problem addressed. Due to the load that the city has in this period and due to investments. What we have found is a mismanagement in recent years of the Vlora water supply. In this regard, there is a major abuse of drinking water consumption to irrigate gardens and agricultural lands. The Ministry is preparing a package to reform this sector, with the aim of improving the supply of drinking water, mainly in tourist areas.
The resigned directors of the municipality have shown that they are unsuitable to perform that task. While they may be given new opportunities in the future, I would like to appeal to all those who come to serve properly. We will be very demanding in terms of services and their appointment according to merit. The same will apply to the directors of the central institutions in Vlora, who have resigned. No person who has held public functions will be reappointed as a director at this stage. All directors will be replaced. Everyone is welcome to contribute more to the city.
All those who have studied in Vlora, Tirana or abroad who are willing to serve in the state administration or in the Vlora administration, who work as waiters or in other jobs, are expected to come and compete for the relevant positions. The municipality will confirm all resignations and open the competition for new leaders.
What we have done in Vlora with the group of deputies that gave us a very good result is just the first step for several ongoing reforms that will be offered.
A new chapter will also begin for the Socialist Party of Vlora, where two new co-mayors, Erjona and Klevisi, have been appointed. Erjona is also a member of parliament, while Klevisi is here in Vlora to keep the house open continuously, the House of the Socialist Party.
All heads of the political organization will be evaluated according to their service on May 11. In the meantime, the party will be completely open to create new groups, to invite new individuals to be contributors. Groups with citizens will also be opened to document everything on the ground in real time.
There is no left or right here. Here among us there are parasites and people who are ready to serve Vlora. The parasites are both left and right, while those who are capable are both left and right. We are with the latter, regardless of political affiliation. This is the approach we have chosen and I believe that this approach will only bring good things to Vlora. (A2 Televizion)
