Sali Berisha admitted in the Debate by Alba Alishani on A2 CN that the fight against what he calls "the first and only drug dictatorship in Europe" has been very difficult.

"Today is Edi Rama's 12th year in power. He didn't start the drug war this year, nor the year before. He laid the foundations in 2015 when he covered Albania from south to north with cannabis. I was the first voice in Albania and the world when I spoke about the drug war," he said.

According to Berisha, who today seeks to oust Rama from power, this happened with a project of the prime minister. For this, he brought back statistics from the period when Berisha himself was governing the country. "Albania had the best indicators in the fight against drugs. First, the main heroin route from the east passed through Albania. Documents of the time prove that it was moved, passing from Macedonia to Serbia. Second, there were only one village with cannabis plots and this was called Lazarat. Third, on the coast of Italy, in 2012, a total of 12.5 kg of cocaine crossed from Albania. So much so that Italy lifted border control with Albania. The boat moratorium had excellent effects," he added.

On the issue of drugs in Albania, Berisha even said that there was a debate in the Council of Ministers of the time. "Arben Ahmetaj predicted that this is money for the Albanian economy. But today this money has destroyed tens of thousands of jobs in export companies, which have lost all profits with the 35% drop in the euro alone," Berisha said. (A2 Televizion)
