In a ceremony held in Korça, the new building of the Greek Consulate General was inaugurated, a building of historical and symbolic importance, where the renowned poet and Nobel Prize winner, George Seferis, once served.
Present at the event was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, George Gerapetritis, who conveyed strong messages of friendship, respect and coexistence between the two peoples, writes A2 CNN.
"The policies of changing borders belong to the past. Today we are united by a common history, common values and especially the Greek minority, which is a bridge of cooperation and understanding. As Seferis would write, old stories do not interest man," Gerapetritis said.
On the other hand, the Albanian Foreign Minister described the construction of the consulate as an act that embodies the new relations between the two countries, based on centuries-old respect and friendship.
"Let us be the generation that builds a true and sustainable partnership between Albania and Greece. Greece has been and remains an important partner for Albania. As Seferis said, Bridges are not built with words, but with words and memory," said Hasani.
At the core of this visit and ceremony were clear political messages: there is no longer any room for rhetoric about division or changing borders, while the Greek minority in Albania and the Albanian community in Greece are bridges connecting the two nations towards a common European future.
