The changes to the Electoral Code came into effect immediately and Ilirjan Celibashi came out to publicly announce to the parties when registration for the elections would begin.
The first deadline is February 25, which is related to the registration of competing entities, while coalitions on March 2. Meanwhile, on March 12, the deadline for registering candidates in the elections expires, which paves the way for the printing of the ballot paper, writes A2 CNN.
The consensus on the parliamentary vote was not reflected in the discussions during the plenary session, where the Democrats and Socialists, in order to avoid blocking rhetoric, said that the CEC could also address the issue of Albanians voting with foreign identification documents, a request that Berisha had publicly articulated as a non-negotiable condition.
The changes to the Code were not only technical but also political in nature, where the pooling of votes also brought about the multiplication of the limit of funds that political parties can spend in the Elections. Regarding this part of the SP-DP agreement, Celibashi is careful to underline that consensus was not reached at the CEC negotiating table.
After the public information at the press conference, Celibashi moved on to the execution of decisions as State Election Commissioner, where he had on the table the complaint of the DP demanding punishment of the socialists for the meetings held in the diaspora. But this claim did not convince him, under the argument that the socialists had held the meetings as political representatives, and not in the guise of a state official. (A2 Televizion)
