With 8,120 votes in the Durrës district, Aulon Kalaja was ranked second on the open list of the Alliance for a Greater Albania coalition, but his good personal result did not give him the opportunity to win the parliamentary mandate.
He translated his dissatisfaction with the result into complaints to the KAS and the Electoral College, where he requests a recount of the votes, but in an interview with A2CNN he says that he is also continuing the fight for the legitimacy of the candidates.
"I will continue with other complaints, because I have not started this battle simply for a mandate, but for the principle of establishing a cornerstone so that every candidate tomorrow in the next elections will have the right to complain. The Electoral Code, which states that candidates are not legitimized, in my opinion has violated the constitution, I will continue the complaint to the Electoral College and the Constitutional Court, and if it is not resolved, I will go to the European Court of Human Rights," says Kalaja.
Ahead of him on the list with a difference of 1047 votes is Arjan Ndoja, but Aulon Kalaja claims that his fight is not with the other candidates within the DP list or with the opponent, but with the system where his challenge is to change the law so that candidates have the opportunity to complain even if their parties do not support them.
"I think that what he has done is that the law that does not legitimize candidates is an unconstitutional law. Therefore, it is a necessity, it is an imperative of the time that this law is not for Aulon Kalana but for other candidates because I may not run anymore, but there is a possibility that when they beat him, they will let him cry. It is that simple," he adds.
Aulon Kalaja calls the decision of the Complaints and Sanctions Commission to open some of the boxes in the Durrës region a small victory, but adds that he is confident that by the end of the process, all the boxes will be opened.
"With the findings that will be made in the boxes that they have decided to recount, they will be forced to open the rest of the boxes as well," Kalaja declares.
Vote trafficking took place in several forms, he claims, where from the first reading of the vote for the subjects to the counting of votes for the candidates, the ballots were tampered with to favor one of the names on the open list.
"From reviewing the footage, I have some votes that were cast only for my name, without a party logo, and in the second count, PS or another party was marked. In the event that I had 4 votes at a table, two were taken from me and two were left. So two votes were taken from me and given to another candidate," he explains.
Based on the CEC's decision, the vote recount will begin on Tuesday at the "Farie Hoti" sports palace. Votes are expected to be recounted in the Tirana district first, followed by Fier, Durrës and Elbasan. (A2 Televizion)
