"Albania is under a dictatorship!", Agron Tufa: Like a goat to the butcher, why the opposition should not have entered the elections

Writer and researcher Agron Tufa says the opposition should not have entered the May 11 elections at all, as they were truly a "massacre."

"What I felt, with all the obvious signs, was that elections could not be held in Albania, they should not have gone to elections in those scandalous conditions. When you knew what massacre was going to happen, it is not good to go like a goat to the butcher," Tufa said in an interview for "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN.

"All the totalitarian structures of a dictatorial regime have been strengthened, where freedoms will find it terribly difficult to even think about. During this mandate, the spaces of freedom will be liquidated, not only social, institutional, but also private ones. I don't know how Albanians imagine the dictatorship of our time differently. They won't shoot cannons to get it figured out. We will see the fight, we will suffer very dearly for this long moment of slumber, where society is unable to react. We are in a dictatorship! Some imagine that we are not, but I say that we are in a dictatorship. Since last year, I have expressed the opinion that we should not enter elections under these conditions." (A2 Televizion)
