Writer Agron Tufa says the time has come for Sali Berisha to open his arms and, together with the people he keeps close, make way for young people in the Democratic Party.
"The DP must be reimagined, reborn, resurrected, it must bring forth figures that give hope, a new mentality and psychology, a new political elite. The DP has become like the SMTs of cooperatives, with those bureaucrats that it recycles and puts on closed lists. The DP has continued to reap the fruits of its hypocrisy for 15 years," Tufa said on "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN.
"Its methods turned out to be no longer effective. The composition, mentality, philosophy, and hunger for victory must be completely changed. I believe that a large part of the DP bureaucracy, every time they appear on TV, takes away 1,000-2,000 votes from the opposition. They have become unbearable, unpalatable. This is a political jungle. If you are a herbivore, in the struggle for existence, the carnivore wins. They have been proven in several rounds that they do not win. They should not have entered the elections, but if they did, they must be held accountable. I expect a reconceptualization, a reconstruction, a new model of an opposition party by the end of this year."
Asked who should lead this reform and whether Berisha can do it himself, Tufa replies: "Berisha is the only power plant with inexhaustible energy. But he is about 80 years old, full of energy, thank God, but he has a limited mandate, for his age. Whether he wants it or not, he will pave the way for new developments. If it is different, then that party will be considered a cultural monument for a minority. This will be the worst possible thing." (A2 Televizion)
