At its latest meeting on May 7, the Council of Ministers approved a series of decisions related to economic development and the security of employees of state institutions. Among them, legal changes to identification documents, the declaration of a new economic development zone in Shijak, as well as new measures for the protection of employees of the Police Supervision Agency (AMP), stand out.
With two normative acts, the government made two additions to the law on electronic identity cards and passports for Albanian citizens, including in the legal text after the word residence the term "within and...", which aims to facilitate the application process for these documents for citizens living abroad.
"In article 9/5, of law no. 8952, dated 10.10.2002, "On the electronic identity card of Albanian citizens", as amended, after the word "... place of residence ..." the words "... within and ..." are added. In article 14/4, of law no. 8668, dated 23.10.2000, "On providing Albanian citizens with a passport for traveling abroad", as amended, after the word "... place of residence ..." the words "... within and ...." are added:", the decision states.
One of the main decisions is the announcement of a technology and economic development zone in Xhafzotaj, Shijak, with the developer “VERTIGO” sh.pk, which will extend over an area of over 135 thousand m². The zone will host various industries, from manufacturing to information technology, aiming to increase investment and employment.
Measures were also adopted for the special protection of AMP employees threatened while performing their duties. The decision provides for the creation of an assessment commission and urgent intervention in the event of a serious threat.
"The employee of the Police Supervision Agency (hereinafter AMP), whose life, family and property are threatened by illegal actions of third parties during the exercise of his/her function or because of it, is provided with special protection. Special protection means measures of an organizational and professional nature for the special securing and preservation of the life, family and property of the threatened AMP employee, as well as any other measure related to this protection," the decision states, among other things.
Other decisions include the approval of the logo of the Chancellery of Orders and Medals, the approval in principle of the social security agreement with Poland, as well as changes to the expropriation project for the 110 kV Lushnje-Fier line.
These decisions enter into force immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette.
