Taulant Balla has reacted with a message of thanks after the completion of the counting of votes received from abroad in the May 11 parliamentary elections.
In a post on social media, Balla described the diaspora vote as a historic act, noting the massive support that Albanians abroad gave to the Socialist Party and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
"THANK YOU DIASPORA red and black! Over 120 thousand Albanians, almost two out of three voters from abroad, supported #EdiRama and the #SocialistParty to place the red and black flag in the courtyard of the European Union. THIS IS A HISTORIC VOTE", writes Balla, reports A2 CNN.
This statement comes at a time when the counting of over 197 thousand envelopes received by mail from Albanian voters abroad has been closed, with a turnout of around 80% of those registered. According to official CEC data, the Socialist Party has received over 122 thousand votes from the diaspora, securing over 61% of support, well ahead of the Democratic Party and other entities.
The diaspora vote has also been decisive for the distribution of mandates in several districts, such as Vlora and Fier, where the Socialist Party secured additional mandates thanks to foreign support.
For Balla, this massive support from the diaspora is not simply an electoral result, but also the successful culmination of a mission, where he was the political leader of the diaspora. (A2 Televizion)
