The European Parliament is expected to open an office in Tirana to serve as a point of contact between the EP, the parliaments of member states and local partners in the Western Balkan countries.
The news was published on the official website of the European Parliament, where it is written, among other things, that "the office will promote the positions and activities of the Parliament, particularly in relation to EU accession, and will support democracy and institutional reforms in the region."
The European Parliament has consistently supported the European perspective of the Western Balkans, recognising its strategic importance for regional stability and the wider European project. The establishment of the office reflects the EU's broader strategy to deepen engagement with candidate countries.
The vital need to strengthen EU partnerships in the Western Balkans has become even clearer given current geopolitical challenges, not least Russia's war in Ukraine.
The establishment of an EP office in Tirana underlines the Parliament's strong commitment to supporting the Western Balkan countries on their path towards EU membership, promoting stability, democracy and closer ties between the EU and its neighbours. (A2 Televizion)
