Prime Minister Edi Rama, at a meeting with Albanian immigrants in Athens, said that with the European Union passport, they will sit "at every table in Europe forever like eagles."
"With this passport, you have the opportunity to stay here (Greece), or to go to any country in Europe and be respected as an equal among Europeans. When your parents came here, they were forced to do many things to survive, to keep their backs to the ground, to not lose the battle, to do work that you, our son or daughter, cannot even imagine today that you have all the good things, and it seems that life has always been like this, but we did these things for you and you, and now we are relieved because you have to respect the white cross on the flag of Greece because it is the country that adopted you, but you do not need to forget the eagle on the red flag or, even worse, change it," said Rama.
The Prime Minister added: "You are eagles and will always be eagles. With the European passport of Albanians, you will sit at every table in Europe forever like eagles. Just as at all tables where Europe gathers, the representatives of the states are below and up on the balcony are the translators of all languages, so will the Albanian translator be, when the representative of Albania speaks Albanian and the others put on headphones to listen. This is the moment, because today for the first time, since we began this journey, Albania has begun the collective journey, you have made efforts here to integrate, Albania has made efforts to integrate into the big world".
"For the first time, the European Union says that we are ready to conclude the agreement with you within 2027 and to be together within this decade. This has come as a result of what we have done, of our persistence, which at best was viewed with pity, in the usual case with annoyance and at worst with contempt, in a situation where they view us with respect and trust. But this has also come as a result of where Europe is today.
