Edi Rama has mocked the Democratic Party's slogan in these parliamentary elections, calling the promise to make "Albania great" "ridiculous." In a meeting this afternoon with first-time voters from the three units in Tirana, the socialist leader stressed that the rhetoric about making cities like Peqin or Puka great is absurd and far from reality.
"Can this be called "normal", an alternative that is not ashamed to say that it will make Albania great? How will they make it great? We don't need to make Albania "great", because this sounds very funny when we say it. We, Albania, will make it a member of the European Union. That's it. Then, the funniest thing: they go to Peqin and say "we will make it great", we will make Puka great, Maliq great, Sharra great... A completely ridiculous story."
During his speech, Rama emphasized the vital importance of concluding negotiations for Albania's membership in the European Union by 2027.
"Negotiations with the EU are a bilateral relationship: you do your homework, they all have to agree. And until today, on their part, they have taken time and delayed us and delayed us. Today, for their own reasons, despite the fact that we have done our homework, they have opened the door and, for the first time since 1991, they also want us to take them in. This means that this open door will not remain open indefinitely. The EU has said that by 2027 they want us to close the negotiations with you. This means that we have to work day and night to close the negotiations. If the negotiations are not closed in 2027, history may drag on," Rama said.
