Prime Minister Edi Rama's meeting with Tirana Municipality structures in "Skënderbej" Square clearly had the appearance of an electoral rally, through which the political rival is shown the muscles of numbers.

He asked to keep the strength of his supporters away from SPAK's doors: "Do not repeat the mistake of protesting in front of the court."

The request should not be interpreted as a retreat from the criticisms expressed about the new justice system after the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj: "Anyone who works makes mistakes. Even the new justice systems cannot be infallible."

He asked the structures of the Municipality of Tirana not to stop working for a moment, while giving the justice system, which has Veliaj's fate in its hands, the opportunity to correct itself: "I hope they give him a dignified trial, putting an end to the practice of handcuffing him without trial when they have no evidence to break."

He gave himself and Veliaj the credit for transforming Tirana into a modern metropolis, while citing the corruption charges they have both faced. "Those who yesterday looked at the percentages for building permits in every new building, now think the same thing when they see towers, what percentage is taken from these building permits?"

What he still does on the battlefields of politics, he admitted, is a question he asks himself: "I'm not leaving because I have a war to finish. The rain and mud of the Sharra cemetery got me into this war, when I buried my father and came back with mud up to my knees."

Albania's membership in the EU goes through Tirana, Rama claimed, a process he sees as revenge: "Albania's membership in the EU is the revenge of every patriotic Albanian for the humiliations that foreigners have inflicted on us and the self-humiliation by the owls and the mothers of the swamp since 1912."

After the meeting at "Skënderbej" Square, Rama held another meeting with left-wing advisors, which lasted about 10 minutes, where A2 CNN learned that he asked everyone to go out into the field and be as active as possible in the area. "Today we need motivation more than ever to win on May 11," Rama is reported to have said. (A2 Televizion)
