With the current situation in the world where several war fronts are open, the return of compulsory military service in Albania could be one of the steps that need to be taken to adapt to the new reality.
This opinion is shared by Socialist MP Denis Deliu, who has been part of the Armed Forces and the Guard of the Republic for years.
In a conversation with Andrea Dangli in the "Off the Record" studio, Deliu said that starting from the war in Ukraine, we can say that the moment has come for the Armed Forces to be closely connected to the people.
"I am in favor of returning compulsory military service because it is good for the younger generation. At the same time, it increases the capacities of the Armed Forces and the Albanian state to ensure their defense. But money is needed because there are costs," said the socialist MP.
Focusing on the investments the socialist government has made in Defense, Deliu mentioned police and military schools that prepare the new generation.
As for armaments, among other things, he explained that apart from the investments made so far, Albania still cannot have the "luxury" to invest in air forces.
According to the socialist MP, Albania has all the possibilities to be a power in the region in terms of defense and national security. He added that with the political rotation in the US, the Union is now expected to increase investments in defense, and Albania, as an aspiring country, can adapt to these steps. (A2 Televizion)
