Smoke and flames in Parliament, US Embassy worried about tensions

The approval of the 2024 budget amid chaos, tensions and smoke from flares lit by opposition MPs, in the last parliamentary session, has caused concern at the United States Embassy.

In a reaction to A2CNN, the headquarters of "Elbasan Road" has expressed concern about the recent developments in the Parliament of Albania, where the normal activity of the country's legislative body has become impossible.

In its response, the US embassy points out that " a functional parliament and dialogue between its representatives are of critical importance to provide services and draft laws in the interest of the Albanian people ".

" The repeated dysfunction observed during the last months is not in the interest of Albania ", it is further underlined in the reaction of the American embassy.

The raising of concern by the diplomatic missions in Tirana comes after several weeks where the political environment has been characterized by tensions, which have reached the peak with physical clashes between MPs and legislators of the opposition with officers of the Guard of the Republic.

The "paralysis" of parliamentary life through the obstruction of the normal progress of work in the committees and the blocking of the Assembly, have been the forms chosen to define the fierce opposition action by the Re-establishment group, led by Sali Berisha and the group of deputies led by Gazmend White.

Meanwhile, on the other side, the majority has moved the works of the commissions to online platforms, while in the Parliament it was applied by vote as soon as the tensions started, as it happened yesterday when the budget was voted in less than 5 minutes. (A2 Televizion)
