The scorching temperatures that have engulfed our country have significantly increased cases of poisoning in the population. The Toxicology Service at the QSUT is in full swing. Doctors say that this summer period has seen a significant increase in emergencies from alcohol intoxication, often mixed with narcotic substances.

Young people over 18 years of age, both boys and girls, are the most frequent patients who seek the help of toxicologists, mainly after the holidays and weekends.

"We have more parties, so this increases intoxication," Mirela Kambo, a toxicologist, tells A2 CNN. "Because of the heat, people consume more alcoholic beverages, thinking that it cools them down, but alcohol causes toxicity. And since it's hot, the possibility of getting intoxicated increases faster."

But in this heat, alcohol use can cause serious poisoning and even death. "We can even have cases of alcoholic coma," says Kambo. "When we can have high or low blood pressure, this complicates the situation even more."

The toxicology service has also seen an increase in emergencies from snakebites and black spider bites. Almost every day, 1 to 2 patients, mainly farmers, are urgently admitted to the QSUT due to snake poisoning. "The first signs are pain, teeth marks... The advice we give to all people is that they should not bandage the wound, they should not cut the wound, but go to the nearest hospital center," Kambo tells A2 CNN.

In the emergency service, there have also been many tourists who have sought help due to excessive alcohol consumption, drug use, and poisoning from snake bites. (A2 Televizion)
