With less than half the population it had 10 years ago, Armeni, one of the historic villages in the Vlora Region, is experiencing massive depopulation.

In the village, the youngest resident is over 40 years old, while prospects for the future are almost nonexistent.

During the country's most difficult years, when the existence and Albanian language were at risk, the men of Armeni were at the forefront of the efforts with rifles and pens. But this name, created over the years, seems to no longer be able to contain the indigenous inhabitants.

The few residents who remain tell us the causes of this depopulation: "Only the elderly are left because the younger generation is emigrating. They left because there is no work. Everything is missing here. It is a shame."

Another elderly man says that the village goes without electricity for days. However, they have not yet lost their sense of humor with notes of irony about the situation they are going through: "What do you want the youth for? We are the old people here, we don't need the youth. We do the hard work." (A2 Televizion)
