Flu complications are overwhelming hospitals in the country. "Shefqet Ndroqi", the hospital specialized in treating lung diseases, is at maximum capacity due to the high influx of emergencies and hospitalizations.

This week is quite busy, doctors say, with elderly and seriously ill patients, writes A2.

Pulmonologist Arben Tanka says that almost all cases that present at the Sanatorium require oxygen therapy due to low oxygen levels in the blood. There is no shortage of patients with severe pneumonia, even requiring intubation.

The flu epidemic is reaching its peak. Over 20,000 cases per week are reported of influenza A, mainly subtype AH3N2.

Doctors say that the infection curve will peak during the first two weeks of February. For the elderly and chronically ill, it is recommended to get the flu vaccine, which contains the current variants. (A2 Televizion)
