Covid-19, in addition to the many problems it has caused in the world's population, has also previously awakened autoimmune diseases. After the pandemic, doctors are noticing a doubling of cases where the immune system fights its own cells and organs.

"This is related to the effect and impact that the Covid-19 virus itself had on the immune system, but also on the duration of Covid symptoms, which led to the emergence of an existing problem, but which was not known. Almost frightening figures are being reported in some cases, in terms of the incidence of autoimmune diseases," rheumatologist Ervin Rrapushi tells A2 CNN. "From 0.5-1%, countries like southern Italy or Slovenia report that it has gone up to 2.5-3.2%."

The doctor says that rheumatoid arthritis is the most widespread in our population and is also appearing at young ages. Autoimmune diseases affect many organs, so their timely treatment is very necessary to avoid damage or disability. According to doctors, the latest scientific studies and new treatment schemes aim to completely cure diseases of autoimmune origin. (A2 Televizion)
