Troubled waters at PSG due to a judicial "earthquake" involving the club's President, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
As part of an investigation into a possible attempt to sway a key vote by the Qatari fund (QIA) in his favor in 2018, the president of the Parisian club was reportedly indicted on February 5 on charges of "collusion in vote buying and violation of voting rights" and "complicity in the abuse of power to the detriment of SCA Lagardère."
According to the investigators' reconstruction, in exchange for a commission, Al-Khelaïfi used his influence and position to convince the Emirates' QIA sovereign wealth fund, at the time the main shareholder of the Lagardère group, to change its position in an internal dispute over governance.
The legal disputes have made headlines around the world, sparking a huge outcry and angering Qatar. So much so that, according to French press sources, there are even rumors of a possible sensational withdrawal of investment in France and PSG.
"In Qatar they are fed up with all this abuse. The false accusations, the blackmail, the daily criticism, all the problems in France are their fault," said a source close to the club's number one.
"I am surprised to be here today, I had no influence on this case. I was involved in this thing that I have nothing to do with simply based on a single telephone communication regarding a problem with Qatar," Nasser Al-Khelaïfi declared to investigators, defending himself from the charges.
