Do you remember Han Kwang-Song? Arriving in Italy at just 19 years old, bought by Cagliari, the former North Korean rising star then played for Perugia and Juve Next Gen, before moving to Qatar.

By August 2020, he had been missing for more than three years, until it was discovered that he had been forced to live in the North Korean embassy in China due to sanctions imposed on his country by the UN and the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The United Nations had imposed new international sanctions in December 2019 precisely to prevent North Korea from obtaining foreign currency to finance its nuclear program, as well as to end the exploitation of thousands of North Korean workers sent abroad in humanitarian conditions defined as bordering on slavery by NGOs.

However, the former Juventus player's repatriation was complicated by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, as North Korea further isolated itself from the rest of the world and closed its borders.

Kwang-Song finally reappeared in public on November 17, 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, among the starters of his national team engaged in a World Cup qualifying match against Syria, which was also the first official match played by North Korea after four years of total isolation.

According to Japanese sources, Han Kwang-Song, who is now 25 years old and played his last international match on November 19, 2024, plays at home with April 25 Sports Club, a team belonging to the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, whose players are all considered military officers.
