Juventus' hopes of a place in the UEFA Champions League suffered a serious blow after a 1-0 defeat to Parma in Serie A. This was only the home team's second win in the last seven direct home encounters against the Bianconeri (5 losses).
The match started at a high pace, and captain Manuel Locatelli had a golden chance in the first minute, but his shot went wide. However, the game quickly lost intensity, with both teams struggling for quality in attack.
Parma were forced to make an early substitution after Alessandro Vogliacco was injured, but were quicker to adapt than Juventus. In the first minute of extra time, Emmanuele Valeri assisted with a precise cross, which was met with a powerful header by Mateo Pellegrino for the only goal of the match.
The second half started equally sluggishly for the visitors, forcing coach Igor Tudor to make a few substitutions. But it was Parma who took the biggest risks on the counterattack. A nice combination between Sohm and Pellegrino ended with a weak shot from Sohm that was easily saved by goalkeeper De Gregorio.
Juventus failed to break down Parma's iron defense, despite dominating possession. The home fans were left in a state of anxiety, as Parma had drawn five games in a row, but this win moved them up to +6 points above the relegation zone. A first defeat for Tudor and a huge missed opportunity for Juventus in the race for the Top-4. (A2 Televizion)
