Marcelo's farewell, he won 25 trophies at Real Madrid alone

A big name says goodbye. Former Brazil and Real Madrid defender Marcelo has announced his retirement from professional football. At the age of 36, the star left-back has decided to call it quits.

"My journey as a player ends here, but I still have a lot to give to football. Thank you for everything," he said in a video posted on social media.

Marcelo played for Real Madrid from 2007 to 2022, winning a total of 25 trophies with the royal club in 546 matches played. The most important are 5 Champions League trophies and 6 Spanish La Liga championship titles.

The former defender has also won two Copa del Rey, five Spanish Super Cups, four Club World Cups and three European Super Cups with Real. The last club Marcelo played for was Fluminense, where he began his career as a player.

With the Brazilians, he won the Copa Libertadores in 2023, before leaving in November after agreeing a deal with the club. Marcelo has also played 58 matches for the Brazilian national team, where he won the Confederations Cup in 2013.

His team medals include bronze at the 2008 Olympics and silver at the 2012 Olympics. (A2 Televizion)
