A Conference League match was marred by violent scenes in the stands on Thursday night, forcing the referee to temporarily halt the match, writes A2 CNN. The shocking incident took place in the Slovenian capital, where Olimpija Ljubljana hosted Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka.

Opposing fans threw flares at each other – one of them even ended up on the pitch – and used iron parts of the goals as striking tools, brawling with each other on the stadium steps.

Lithuanian referee Manfredas Lukjancukas stopped the match at the Stožice Stadium as smoke covered part of the pitch. The stadium announcer tried several times to restore calm, which was restored thanks to the intervention of security forces.

The match ended with 19 minutes of extra time, while Borac secured passage to the round of 16 after a goalless draw, which gave them qualification with a 1-0 aggregate score. (A2 Televizion)
