Bolivia is one of the toughest teams in Latin America and the reason is simple. The team plays its matches at the “El Alto” stadium, which translates to “The Highest” in Albanian, which is located at 4,150 meters above sea level.
Altitude affects the lack of oxygen and this makes the conditions for the matches to be extremely difficult.
Images from the final qualifying match between Bolivia and Uruguay show friendly player Jose Maria Jimenez being forced to use an oxygen tank to breathe during the game.
Even though he plays for Atletico Madrid and at the highest levels, the Uruguayan captain appeared in great difficulty. (A2 Televizion)
