Corinna Schumacher, the wife of Michael Schumacher, has appealed a sentence described as "too lenient" for a blackmail scheme aimed at disseminating confidential information about her husband's health.
Three men, including Schumacher's former bodyguard Markus Fritsche, were on trial for stealing hard drives containing images, videos and medical records of Schumacher. The trial took place in the German city of Wuppertal, where the three defendants were accused of blackmail.
Prosecutors had asked for a three-year sentence for Yilmaz Tozturkan, while the Schumacher family had asked for five years in prison for him. Fritsche was given a two-year suspended sentence, a sentence that Corinna called insufficient. She considers Fritsche to be the mastermind behind this blackmail and is seeking a sentence that would deter similar crimes in the future.
Furthermore, Corinna has strongly defended the privacy of Michael Schumacher, who has not appeared in public since his tragic skiing accident in 2013.
