Thousands gathered Tuesday afternoon in North Macedonia to honor the 59 people who lost their lives in a nightclub fire over the weekend.
In Skopje, people gathered in the main square and turned on the flashes on their mobile phones for 16 minutes straight, symbolizing the date the tragedy occurred, March 16.
Hundreds more gathered in the main square of Kocani for prayers. Black balloons were released into the night sky.
Citizens held photos of their loved ones and those involved in the rescue operation, while others lit candles.
A fire broke out at a nightclub in Kocani on Sunday around 3:00 a.m.
Officials on site said that the Pulse nightclub had an illegally obtained permit and that the premises of the building were not equipped with fire alarms or emergency exits. (A2 Televizion)
