A video released by the San Diego Zoo Safari Park shows the impressive reaction of African elephants after the earthquake that struck Southern California on Monday, writes A2 CNN. The earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2, caused problems in many areas, including the park's facilities.

Immediately after sensing the tremors, the elephants gathered around their calf in a formation known as an “alarm circle” – a protective behavior aimed at securing the calves and maintaining the safety of the entire herd. In the footage, the elephants are shown instinctively surrounding the calf, creating a living shield to face any potential threat.

Zoo officials said this behavior is completely natural and shows the strong sense of cooperation and protection that exists within the elephant herd. After a few minutes, when the situation calmed down, the elephants returned to their usual behavior. (A2 Televizion)
