A Sydney resident got a scary surprise when he called reptile experts to remove some snakes from his garden — and they discovered a whopping 102 snakes hiding in a pile of dirt, writes A2 CNN. David Stein, a resident of Horsley Park, a suburb about 30 kilometers from the center of Sydney, had seen some snakes in his garden and decided to call the experts for help.
During the operation, snake hunter Dylan Cooper found five adult snakes and 97 newborns, a rare phenomenon, according to Cory Kerewaro, owner of the reptile rescue organization.
These were red-bellied black snakes, a venomous species known for females gathering in groups to give birth. However, witnessing a mass birth involving dozens of snakes at the same time is an extremely rare event.
One of the captured females even gave birth to other snakes inside the transport bag. In total, the process of removing the snakes took about three hours.
Stein described the experience as terrifying and said he felt calmer after the snakes left. He and his wife had previously read that the reptiles gather to give birth, which convinced them to seek professional help.
Experts sent all the snakes to a national park, where they could live away from residential areas. Fortunately, they were caught in time, before they spread into the neighborhood. (A2 Televizion)
