A Peruvian fisherman, Máximo Napa Castro, was rescued after 95 days lost at sea. He was found by an Ecuadorian patrol 1,126 kilometers off the coast of Peru, after more than three months sailing without drinking water and surviving on what the ocean offered.

Napa Castro, known as "Gatón," told CNN that his faith in God and his desire to see his family kept him alive. He survived by eating fish, birds, insects and even a turtle to drink its blood. "I talked to God for many days, telling him how important my family was," he said.

The fisherman had set off on his journey on December 10 from Marcona, Peru, but an engine failure and strong currents swept him away from shore. Without a radio and no means of communication, he was left isolated in the ocean. At one point, he lost hope and considered giving up, but he motivated himself by telling himself: “You can do it, Gatón!”

Due to constant exposure to the sun and salt water, his body became covered in sores. He drank rainwater when he could, while at other times he was forced to drink his own urine. "It was terrible, but I had no other choice," he confessed.

On March 14, he heard a voice from a rescue helicopter calling out: “Gatón!” That was the moment he knew he had been saved. After 95 days of anxiety and survival, he sees life with a new meaning. “I want to tell my story to the whole world, so that people believe and give more love in this life,” he concluded.
