An unusual event occurred in Byneset, near the city of Trondheim in Norway, where a large cargo ship, 135 meters long, went off course and crashed into the shore, ending up in the yard of a private house.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, around 5:00 a.m. local time, A2 CNN reports. The homeowner, Johan Helberg, told the media that he was only awakened when his alarmed neighbor knocked on the door. "I don't like to open the doorbell at that time," he told Norwegian television station TV2. "When I looked out the window, I was stunned. It was a giant ship. I had to bend down to see the top of it."
Helberg added that the ship stopped just five meters from his bedroom. “If it had been a little further south, it would have gone into the house,” he told broadcaster NRK. His neighbor, Jostein Jorgensen, heard the noise and saw the ship moving rapidly towards land. He rushed to Helberg’s house to warn him.
The Cyprus-flagged ship, NCL Salten, had 16 people on board and was traveling through the Trondheim Fjord towards Orkanger. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The causes of the incident are still unclear and Norwegian authorities have launched an investigation. The CEO of NCL described it as a serious incident. According to Norwegian media, this is not the first time that this ship has gone off course – a similar incident had also occurred in 2023. (A2 Televizion)
